While they are exuberant and tireless outside, it seems their favorite inside duty is to keep all sofas warm for the impending arrival of my posterior. They also seem to enjoy serving as “dust collectors”. Perhaps they believe that by covering as many surfaces as possible with their prone bodies they can catch descending dust particles to be later discarded outdoors.  If so, could this possibly be a thoughtful attempt to reduce my household chores?  In any case they are charming house companions that either keep me young or age me rapidly depending on their current activity of choice.

Blackbriar Terriers was recently relocated to a high hill in the Moodus section of historic East Haddam, CT. Each busy day draws to a close with a sense of peace, contentment and accomplishment while watching the incredible sunsets over the Connecticut River.

Blackbriar Terriers, for the past 16 years, has always, and will always, breed our terriers with a reverence for the past while holding firm to a vision for the future. We are proud to have consistently produced terriers with the much sought after, but rarely found, balance of excellent reach in front coupled with outstanding drive to enable a terrier to move with a fluid, ground covering stride. All current breeding stock are AKC champions with several having successful Specials careers.

While form following function is the critical test of any breeding program, equally important is the ability to produce excellent temperaments with joyful personalities that will add to a family's life and pleasure. To this end all pups are formally Temperament Tested to ensure they are placed with a compatible family. Because a healthy, genetically sound dog is a better pet, show dog and/or breeding prospect, all breeding stock is BEAR normal and CERF clear (yearly).

Although our dogs have an enviable show record including 3 Best in Shows, countless Group 1s, and other Group wins, consistent Westminster placements, and a National Specialty Best of Breed, our true pride comes from producing personalities that have proven to be a joy to many families.
